Dawn and Dusk (The Animals), 2025
A gathering of items from the Williams Collection, The Oaks, pedestals and platforms, light, and artworks by the artists represented in the collection
Organized by curator Rachael Arauz
This multi-part artwork was created over the the course of a year at the Williams Collection while the artist experienced a prolonged period of sensitivity to visual information. Incorporating the grounds and the art inside the residence, The Animals grew from a desire to see, draw, and reconfigure aspects of the collection, deepening Rotzel’s core practice as both an artist and curator. An accompanying choreographed work is intended to be viewed privately in small groups at dawn and dusk. The controlled encounter takes place in a setting and time that feels apart from the artist’s daily life, and is meant to invite others to experience something similar.
