The Big Draw: People, Creatures and Green Things
A collaborative community project with Meg Rotzel & Bonnie Duncan
January — March, 2026
The Big Draw is a community-based drawing project inspired by the inhabitants of Boston’s Roslindale Village and neighboring arboretum: the plants, animals and people who call its hills home. During a 3-month residency sited at The Substation, a community space in the heart of the neighborhood, Meg Rotzel, Bonnie Duncan and the Gottabees highlighted the neighborhood’s habitats and vitality. Throughout the residency they generated drawings and performance elements by hosting community drawing events and workshops with students from the Conservatory Lab School. The resulting monumental drawing and it’s animated and collectively created cranky, or moving panorama, is an ode to life in the neighborhood. Presented in the heart of Roslindale on the Substation’s prominent window, Meg’s monumental drawing overlooks the hub of the neighborhood, Adam’s Park, and lit up the Roslindale Square during the dark winter months.
